RDS Retained ffs Isle of Skye

Following a campaign by FBU Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has agreed that retained duty system (RDS) FBU officials carrying out recognised “paid” trade union duties should be paid at the recognised rate of pay for their roles, and that this time should be counted towards their contractual obligation.

This agreement brings retained FBU officials’ trade union leave in Scotland into line with their wholetime counterparts.

Regional secretary John McKenzie and regional retained official Gordon Nimmo met SFRS to reach the agreement. Nimmo said the FBU was pleased the service had addressed the concerns of RDS members.

“We encourage all RDS stations who do not have any FBU branch structure or representative in place to do so, to help represent RDS members across the region,” they said. “For further information they should contact their area representative in the first instance.”
