All fire services in Wales are under review following reports of widespread discrimination and harassment, and serious failings by fire service leaders.
An independent culture review of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service published this January found evidence that misconduct, sexual harassment and abuse had been tolerated by management.
Chief fire officer Huw Jakeway stepped down in response, and the Welsh government appointed four external commissioners to oversee the service.
One of the first actions of the unelected commissioners was to appoint an interim chief fire officer to lead the implementation of the 82 recommendations in the report.
The appointee, Stuart Millington, was subsequently revealed to be facing allegations of bullying in North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
The South Wales FBU brigade committee passed a vote of no confidence in the appointment, describing it as having “significantly eroded public trust” and calling for the commissioners to review the decision.
The Senedd has now announced that both North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service will undergo culture reviews.
