Yesterday FBU conference discussed a range of issues that are facing members in control rooms.
After the session Tam McFarlane spoke to Amelia Diallo from the control staff national committee (CSNC) and Brent Thorley from Dorset and Wiltshire on two vital issues facing control staff. Amelia outlines the situation facing members when control rooms are merged. She explains the pressures control staff face as the volume of calls increase but staff numbers are cut.
Brent then discusses the impact new mobilising systems are having on control staff and how these systems are consistently failing. He praises the professionalism of control staff, often left with no option but to resort to mobilising appliances with pen and paper due to these failings.
Finally Amelia sends a message to all control firefighters facing similar situations. She urges them to stay engaged with the union and raise concerns to ensure their voice is heard.
