Giving evidence to the Westminster Parliament’s home affairs select committee, FBU general secretary Matt Wrack refuted claims that the union had obstructed the response to Covid.
In fact, he said, FBU members had made a significant contribution to it.
“The one thing that possibly brings home in the most stark way what our members volunteered to do, in agreement with their union, was that we had specialist teams in at least two services moving the bodies of the deceased, and that included FBU officials.”
At a previous session of the committee former fire service inspector Tom Winsor had claimed the FBU had obstructed the fire and rescue service helping with Covid.
The union wrote to select committee chair Diana Johnson MP, asking to reply in person.
