Firefighters returned to Durham this year to join thousands of other workers and trade unionists at the annual miners’ gala.
The weekend began with a three-day FBU national officer school, which had been postponed from 2020.
Attendees heard from speakers including Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union joint general secretary Sarah Woolley and National Education Union president Daniel Kebede.
This year’s gala paid tribute to key workers and their role in keeping the country going through the pandemic.
People lining the streets applauded firefighters marching behind the FBU banner. Firefighters spoke to members of the public about the Westminster government’s White Paper attack on pay and conditions, winning their commitment to back the FBU in its fight.
