Dear Brother/ Sister

BLACK & ETHNIC MINORITY MEMBERS (B&EMM) SCHOOL 2019 “EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE:  WHY WE MUST ORGANISE COLLECTIVELY FOR PROGRESS” FRIDAY 4 – SUNDAY 6 OCTOBER 2019 AT WORTLEY HALL, NEAR SHEFFIELD, S35 7DB

Please find attached an application form for the annual B&EMM School which will take place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October 2019 at Wortley Hall, Sheffield.

The programme will include the opportunity to hear from specialist guest speakers and attend workshop sessions designed to develop and support BAME firefighters and trade unionists to realise their potential. Participants will have the opportunity to raise and discuss issues with FBU officials and colleagues in a supportive and welcoming forum, where advice and guidance can be provided. Programme highlights will be posted on the FBU website nearer the time.

B&EMM wishing to attend the school who are on duty for these dates should contact their FBU brigade official to request trade union leave.  This should be requested at the same time as the application form is submitted.

The B&EMM National Committee has a policy that priority is given to:

•             First time applicants

•             Our non-African Caribbean members and women members

•             B&EMM who are interested in becoming union officials

•             Members who make a contribution to B&EMM activity

Applications will be endorsed by Head Office in conjunction with Regional Secretaries and the B&EMM National Officials. All applications will be acknowledged and we will confirm after the closing date those applicants that have successfully secured a place at this year’s school.

Completed applications must be returned to [email protected] no later than Monday 9 September 2019 or by post to Kate Cassidy, Fire Brigades Union, 68 Coombe Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 7AE.  If you would like to discuss the School please contact Cameron Matthews, B&EMM Section National Chair on 07824 438858 or [email protected]

Yours fraternally

Matt Wrack
