Dear Brother/Sister,
OBSTACLES TO CHALLENGING LGBT DISCRIMINATION: A TUC SURVEY OF UNION MEMBERS AND REPRESENTATIVES
Discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity is illegal under the Equality Act 2010. Despite this, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) workers are more than twice as likely to face harassment or bullying as non LGBT colleagues.
The TUC are concerned that given this position, only a very small percentage of discrimination claims are taken to Employment Tribunals.
In order to try and understand the obstacles that prevent or deter LGBT workers from using the law to challenge discrimination, the TUC are conducting a survey.
The TUC are seeking responses from workers who did not exercise their legal rights to challenge discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identify under the Equality Act 2010.
Survey forms can be downloaded from the link below and should be returned to Peter Purton, Policy Officer, Equality and Strategy Department, Congress House, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LS, or electronically to [email protected], by no later than 31st March 2016.
Yours sincerely,
John McGhee
National Officer
