Inundated: The lessons of recent flooding for the fire and rescue service

Publication description

If climate is what you expect and weather is what you get, then floods are perhaps the greatest risk facing communities in the coming years from climate change and extreme weather.

Firefighters are frontline first responders to major flood events and can expect to be busy in the period ahead. Around one million people living in over half a million properties in the UK are currently at risk from flooding, either from the sea, from rivers or from surface water flooding during heavy downpours. Around one-in-six homes could be at risk from flooding – and these risks are increasing due to population growth, building on flood plains and climate change
