The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has today called on Labour to back the SNP motion in today’s House of Commons vote.
The FBU is affiliated to the Labour Party.
Matt Wrack, Fire Brigades Union general secretary, said:
Israel’s actions in Gaza are an act of collective punishment and break international law. Thirty thousand Palestinians, including ten thousand children, are dead – and now the Israeli military is threatening to invade Rafah, where 1.5 million civilians are sheltering.
“Political positioning and parliamentary process are trivial in the face of what is happening. Firefighters are humanitarians, and the FBU believes it is the moral duty of all politicians to act to prevent death and suffering. This means calling for an immediate ceasefire without caveats.
“As an affiliated union, we look to Labour MPs to fight for the interests of workers, and for peace and justice across the world. The SNP motion is the only motion which calls for an immediate ceasefire without caveats, and we call on all Labour MPs to vote for it.”
