The Fire Brigades Union has said that it will work towards White Ribbon Accreditation, on the annual White Ribbon Day.
The White Ribbon Accreditation programme is for organisations that want to make a commitment to ending male violence against women and girls. It involves ensuring change happens within an organisation as well as relating to outward facing activity.
It involves four core criteria, namely strategic leadership, engaging men and boys, changing culture, and raising awareness.
White Ribbon Day occurs annually on 25 November. White Ribbon UK engages with men and boys to end violence against women and girls. It aims to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing the root causes.
Riccardo la Torre, Fire Brigades Union national officer, said:
“The FBU is wholeheartedly committed to playing its part in ending male violence against women and girls. We are therefore working towards becoming White Ribbon Accredited. We look forward to partnering with White Ribbon UK to build a union that is ready to be part of the fight to prevent male violence against women and girls. Violence of this nature is absolutely despicable. We must all take active steps to eradicate it.”
