Fire Brigades Union statement on the death of Sir David Amess MP

October 15, 2021
David Amess 2

Matt Wrack, general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, has issued the following statement:

"On behalf of the whole of the FBU I would like to express our horror at the death of Sir David Amess MP today, and I would also like to extend our condolences to his family and friends. This was a senseless act that has robbed a family of a loved one, as he was trying to meet and speak to his constituents. We condemn it in the strongest possible terms.

"The FBU had a longstanding professional relationship with Sir David through his chairing of the Fire Safety and Rescue All-Party Parliamentary Group, and he consistently raised many important fire and rescue service matters over the years. This included valuable contributions as the recent Fire Safety Act passed through Parliament. His expertise and hard work on fire and rescue issues will be greatly missed."
