Matt Wrack has been re-elected as the general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) with an overwhelming 67% of the vote.
Matt was first elected in 2005. This will be his fourth term in office, elected with the highest proportion of votes in any previous FBU general secretary election.
Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said:
“I want to thank FBU members for trusting me to continue as general secretary of our great union. It is a huge privilege and honour to serve firefighters for a fourth term.
“The last fifteen years have been tumultuous and we have greater challenges still ahead. We face a right-wing anti-union Tory majority government. They pose an existential threat to our union and our service – and we will fight them at every turn.
“Up and down the country, firefighters have made their views clear – that enough is enough. Years of pay restraint have left them struggling to make ends meet, and all while doing more work for free.
“I’m ready for the fight ahead and emboldened by the strong mandate to take forward our union’s policies. The FBU will keep fighting for firefighters and the public they serve. We will not be silenced.”
