Firefighters' union comment on Charlie Batterbee's evidence to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry

June 28, 2018
Wayne Roe 6

Commenting on the evidence given by firefighter Charlie Batterbee at the Grenfell Tower Inquiry today, FBU national officer Dave Green said:

“Charlie Batterbee’s evidence demonstrated his great professionalism while tackling an unprecedented fire. How the temperature he faced in flat 16 was beyond anything he had experienced before either on the job or in training. How a firefighter dangled from a window to tackle the fire on the outside of the building. How firefighters broke procedures to rescue people, taking off their own breathing apparatus to put on the people they were rescuing. How firefighters didn’t stop trying to save as many lives as possible. His evidence showed how firefighters went above and beyond the call of duty. We are proud to have him as a member. We want this inquiry to be a success and to achieve justice for all those who lost their lives at Grenfell."
