Mark Dixon from West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service has won the first draw of the Firefighters 100 Lottery, launched by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) last month.
Mark, a firefighter stationed on green watch at Highgate fire station in Birmingham, won the £920 jackpot just days before his 31st birthday.
“I was so surprised”, he says. “I found out just after returning to my station after a call out on Bonfire night. I signed up for the lottery to support a great cause but to win the best part of a thousand pounds is just amazing. I didn’t expect it at all.
“I don’t know exactly how I’ll be spending the money yet but it was nice surprise just before my birthday. Everyone who can spare a pound a week should sign up to the lottery.”
The Firefighters 100 Lottery will raise funds for a whole host of good causes supported by the FBU, including financial support for the families of firefighters killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. It will also raise funds to support humanitarian assistance to the victims of fire.
Each week, three guaranteed cash prizes are up for grabs. This week’s winners also include two runners up who won £273 and £136 respectively.
To celebrate the inaugural draw, a brand spanking new iPhone 7Plus was also on offer and was won by Patrick Edwards from Northumberland.
