Working people must have a seat at the table when negotiations begin over the UK’s withdrawal from Europe, the general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union has said.
In a new video update released Monday 11 July, Matt Wrack also argued that firefighters should not pay the price for any economic downturn that may follow. If the UK is hit by a recession, tax receipts will drop and it is feared that there could be further downward pressure on fire and rescue service finances.
Wrack also called for unity within the Labour party saying that at a time of political turmoil MPs need to support their leader. Wrack goes on to say that the FBU has the best dialogue with the Labour frontbench then at any other time and means union supported policies could be put before voters at the next election.
