Firefighters' union leader Matt Wrack will attend the inquest into the death of Greater Manchester firefighter Stephen Hunt today, who died tackling a city centre blaze in 2013.
Matt Wrack, general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU), said: "Inevitably, this inquest will be a deeply upsetting process for all involved, especially for Stephen's family and for his colleagues. The purpose of the inquest is to identify what happened. It is not to allocate blame.
“Firefighters across the country will want to know what happened so that we can then identify what went wrong and what lessons can be learned. Sadly, the FBU has significant experience in this process and we have made sure our fire service safety expertise and legal support has been made available for Stephen's family and for the firefighters involved.
“I am sure the people of Greater Manchester will want to know that everything possible is being done to ensure that such a tragedy does not occur again.”
