What Lobby Parliament to protest the Trade Union Bill

The general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, Matt Wrack, has called for firefighters to join thousands of other trade union activists to protest the government’s draconian and undemocratic Trade Union Bill.
The bill, if successful, will make it practically impossible for workers to take legal strike action, will set up unions for attacks on their finances and is designed to see unions or individual workers increasingly dragged in front of the courts. It is a major attack on the rights of working people.
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has organised the lobby to make sure MPs hear directly from the people who are worried the bill will undermine workers’ rights, including the democratic right to take industrial action.
Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: “The Trade Union Bill is a direct attack on firefighters and their rights at work. It is clearly aimed at preventing unions from organising and campaigning effectively. It aims to hit our finances. It threatens our right to take action to defend our service and our pay, jobs and conditions. Firefighters and the FBU are also the best defenders of the service to the public. The bill aims to stop us standing up for public services.
“Firefighters from all over the UK should come along on 2 November to send the government a strong message. We are facing a fundamental threat from this Tory government. We must fightback.”
