A motion has been submitted in the House of Commons calling for the government to ensure the forthcoming Comprehensive Spending Review does not make further cuts to the fire and rescue service.
Since 2010 nearly 7,000 firefighter jobs have been lost – equivalent to one in eight – with fire stations, engines and equipment also cut.
Early Day Motion 513: Fire service – Reductions in Services, has been submitted by Ian Mearns MP and so far has been signed by 66 others. The Fire Brigades Union is calling for members and supporters to begin lobbying their MPs to sign and support the motion.
