The Labour party’s pink bus is due to visit women firefighters and emergency control staff this coming Friday with MP Angela Smith on board.
The bus is touring the country ahead of the general election in order to connect with women voters after figures showed 9.1 million women did not vote in 2010.
Women firefighters and emergency control staff are attending the Fire Brigades Union’s Women’s School at Wortley Hall in order to discuss being a woman in the fire service, share experiences and plan campaigning activity.
Angela Smith said: “I am delighted to be visiting the brave women who serve in our fire and rescue service. I want to hear their views and opinions about the challenges facing our country over the coming years and how a Labour government would help women.”
Samantha Rye, secretary of the national women’s committee of the FBU, said: “This is a watershed election for the UK and it’s important that everyone who can vote, does vote.”
