Firefighters in England completed 24 hours of strike action at 9:00 Wednesday morning but have vowed to carry on fighting the government’s unworkable and unfair pension scheme.
The strike coincided with a march of around 3,000 firefighters through Aylesbury calling for firefighter Ricky Matthews to be reinstated after he was fired by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Authority for participating in lawful strike action.
Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: “Firefighters have been steadfast in this fight to stop their pensions from being decimated.
“We are not going away. If the Westminster government think firefighters will just roll over and accept this pension robbery they can think again.
“I’d like to thank the thousands of firefighters who attended the demonstration to reinstate Ricky Matthews.
“Ricky’s sacking is an attack on all firefighters and their right to organise in the workplace. Firefighters will stand and support Ricky until the fire authority reinstates him.”
Firefighters in England went on strike for 24 hours from 9:00 on Tuesday 9 December.
Firefighters in Scotland and Wales did not take part in strike action as revisions of the pension plans are being discussed.
