Paul Cockburn, brigade secretary of the West Midlands Fire Brigades Union, passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a fight against cancer.

Paul served as a brave firefighter for twenty four years starting at Kings Norton in Birmingham followed by Northfield, Highgate, Hay Mills and the training centre.
Paul was a caring man who believed in other people and became a branch official at the training centre.
Paul moved on to become a brigade official and for the past two years was the brigade secretary representing and defending fourteen hundred members in the West Midlands.
Paul cared passionately about workers’ rights and conditions and fought every day to defend them. Paul was the most honest, hardworking, thoughtful and passionate man.
Paul will be missed deeply by all and the love of everyone within the Fire Service and Trades Union movement is with his family.
A full Fire Service funeral for Paul has now been arranged to take place on Friday 1st August, at 12:45 hrs, at Holy Cross Church, 29 Beauchamp Road, Billesley Common, Birmingham, B13 0NS followed by a private family committal in Solihull, after which Paul’s family have invited people to join them at the Highbury Inn, Dads Lane, Moseley, B13 8PQ.
Paul’s family have requested no flowers for the funeral, however donations in memory of Paul in lieu of flowers should be sent to St Mary’s Hospice, 176 Raddlebarn Road, Selly Park, Birmingham, B29 7DA.
