Merthyr Tydfil firefighters say final goodbye to colleague Ceri Huw Owens

On Wednesday (30th April) firefighters from Merthyr Tydfil will say their final farewell to their colleague, Ceri Huw Owens who recently passed away whilst on annual leave.

Firefighters in full ceremonial dress will form a guard of honour at the funeral, and a number of fire engines will also be in attendence.

Rob Bishop, fellow watch member and Fire Brigades Union branch secretary, said: “We are all obviously devastated at this sad news and this will be a huge loss, not only to the service but to the community that he had been so proud to serve for over 29 years.

“He was a quiet, unassuming character who was highly regarded by all of his friends and colleagues.”

Alex Psaila FBU secretary for South Wales, said: “The sad loss of such a well-known and highly respected member has been felt across the service.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends at such a sad time.”

The funeral will take place at the St Tydfil Old Parish Church on Wednesday, April 30, at 11.30am.
