Ahead of a strike by the RMT today over the prospect of almost 1,000 redundancies on the London Underground, Matt Wrack, Fire Brigades Union general secretary, has sent a message of solidarity to the union’s members.
Wrack said: “On behalf of all members of the Fire Brigades Union I write to pass on a message of support to the RMT and its members for the strike action taking place from 9.00 pm this evening.
“FBU members know only too well the difficult decision to take such action, but RMT members have been left with no alternative in order to defend their jobs and protect ticket offices.
“RMT members are being forced to take this action in order to safeguard the service and the safety of passengers travelling through the transport system in London. London Underground need to sit down with the RMT and engage in meaningful discussions in order that a satisfactory agreement can be reached to end the dispute.”
