Matt Wrack, the general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, has sent a letter of condolences and solidarity to the president of the RMT following the death of their general secretary, Bob Crow.
In the letter, Wrack writes: “Before he was executed in 1915, IWW leader Joe Hill sent a telegram, including the famous words, ‘Don’t waste any time mourning. Organise!’
“Nevertheless, workers did mourn Joe Hill’s death. Likewise, we in the FBU, along with workers and trades unionists here and in many other countries, will mourn our friend and comrade Bob Crow.
“We will also celebrate Bob’s life and his contribution to the struggle to organise workers. The most fitting tribute we can play is to re-double our efforts to build a fighting, campaigning trade union movement that organises and fights back.”
