The government is currently consulting on a third successive year of pension contribution increases for firefighters.
The increases could mean many firefighters who earn less than £29,000 pay more than £4,000 a year towards their pension, pricing many out of the scheme.
The Fire Brigades Union has warned that further contributions could also cost the taxpayer in the long run and possibly make the pension scheme unworkable.
