Fire Brigades Union General Secretary, Matt Wrack, has written to members to outline the position on industrial action, pensions and retirement age.
In the letter, Wrack explains that the FBU’s Executive Council agreed to postpone the five hour strike scheduled for the next day at its meeting on 18 October in order to allow FBU negotiators to fully explore an apparent significant shift in position from the Employers and DCLG on the issue of firefighters being found in a position of being unable to continue work as a result of deteriorating fitness as they aged but being unable to receive their full pension.
However, further strike action was called after it emerged that no guarantees were to be made about this issue.
