North American firefighters have written to their UK counterparts to offer solidarity in the campaign to protect fire and rescue services.
Harold A Schaitberger, General President of the International Association of Fire Fighters, wrote to Fire Brigades Union General Secretary Matt Wrack last week.
In the letter, Schaitberger pledges the support of his organisation and its 300,000 members in the fight to ‘protect the benefits and safety of FBU members and the citizens of the United Kingdom.’

Brother Wrack,
Please share with President Alan McLean and the rest of your leadership and members that the 300,000 members of the International Association of Fire Fighters and the entire IAFF Executive Board stand with you in absolute solidarity in your efforts to protect the benefits and safety of Fire Brigades Union members and the citizens of the United Kingdom.
Our union has been fighting back against similar attacks on our members with everything we have here in the United States and Canada. And we are proud to say we will stand with you and fight against the injustices you face in every way you believe will be helpful, including a contribution of financial resources, if necessary. Just let us know.
In solidarity,
Harold A Schaitberger
General President.
