The full ceremonial funeral of Manchester firefighter Stephen Hunt will take place at 11am on Tuesday 3 September at Bury Parish Church. Firefighters from Greater Manchester and from across the UK will attend to pay tribute.
Fire Brigades Union General Secretary Matt Wrack, who will be attending the service, said: “Stephen died a hero, and his willingness to put his own life at risk to save and help others deserves to be remembered and honoured.
“This sense of courage and self-sacrifice can be found in firefighters across the country, and we are all indebted to the tireless and often unseen work they undertake to keep us safe.
“Stephen’s death was a terrible tragedy, and firefighters and the union will continue to work with our communities, employers and government to make sure that safety is put first for both firefighters and the general public.”
The FBU is encouraging donations to the Stephen Hunt Memorial Fund, which will be used solely to support Stephen’s dependants.
