Firefighters from across Europe hold an EPSU banner outside Trades Congress House

Firefighters from across Europe met in London for the annual European Federation of Public Services Union (EPSU) Firefighters’ Network on 2 and 3 December.

The event took place in TUC Congress house. Delegates discussed issues affecting their fire services and agreed a working plan for the network for the coming year.

Delegates heard updates on research into occupational cancer and asbestos in the UK. FBU general secretary Matt Wrack  and FBU national officer Riccardo la Torre presented on the Grenfell inquiry and the campaign for national standards in the UK.

Matt Wrack said:

We are proud to be a part of the firefighters’ network and to have hosted this year’s meeting. The struggles we face in the UK fire and rescue service are experienced by firefighters internationally.
By learning from each other and working together, we can make firefighting safer everywhere.”
