In recent years, we have seen how much we can achieve when we stand together. Despite years of cuts and attacks, we have held together and fought back.
We now face a new government with fresh challenges and opportunities. We have a chance to shape our profession and our service for the future, including better pay and conditions, new fire service standards and safe crewing levels.
Tell the Westminster government: it’s time to deliver.
Investment
After fourteen years of austerity, we need to repair the damage inflicted on the fire and rescue service and public safety. We need investment to make our service resilient for the future with a changing climate and emerging new technologies, and we need resources to create better, safer working conditions for firefighters on the frontline.
Standards
Fragmentation of the fire service has made the public less safe. Response times are slower than ever, and in some areas fire engines are sent to fires without enough firefighters to safely tackle incidents. We need a national body to set standards on fire cover, training, equalities and health and safety, with firefighters given a voice.
Workers’ rights
Firefighters and other workers have endured years of attacks on their pay, pensions, collective bargaining, and right to take industrial action. The government must deliver the New Deal for Working People in full, scrapping the Tories’ anti-union laws to give workers a proper voice and improve the living standards of all working people.
