Letter to Sir Thomas Winsor: inspections of fire and rescue services in England
We have previously reported the activity of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) and the various inspections they have undertaken of fire and rescue services in England. HMICFRS has now produced three national reports; two annual reports (State of Fire and Rescue) and a special report on the FRS response to Covid. We have previously set out (see circular 2021HOC0029MW) why we have concluded that these reports constitute a politically motivated attack on firefighters and the FBU. They are an attempt to provide justification for the attacks on our pay, terms and conditions and our rights to collective bargaining which appear to be in preparation at Westminster. Please find attached a letter sent to Sir Thomas Winsor, the Chief Inspector and head of HMICFRS, setting out our concerns about his reports and the evident political motivation behind them.
