Pay 2019: Now step up the fight for our service, our pay and our future
At the end of July we reported a pay offer received from the fire service employers to increase all NJC pay rates including CPD by 2% from 1 July this year. This was issued to branches for consultation. At the Executive Council this week the results of this consultation were reported and the Executive Council agreed that the 2% increase should be implemented and we have now written to the employers informing them of this discussion.
Nevertheless members are reminded of the Executive Council’s recommendation regarding this offer. In this it was noted that:
This marks a further real terms pay cut.
- This follows a decade of falling real wages, alongside the theft of pension rights and the unprecedented cuts which have been made to the service.
Therefore the Executive Council also agreed further steps in developing a campaign to build our opposition to the pay freeze imposed by central government and the nine year programme of slashing funding to the fire and rescue service. These campaign measures are currently being put in place and will be discussed at the forthcoming meeting of the Executive Council. This will involve meetings to brief and discuss with FBU members in all brigades across the UK. Please watch out for local meetings.
