Dear Brother/Sister,
On Thursday 25 June, an FBU member was involved in a serious incident during his initial BA training. This incident has left the member in hospital and in a very serious condition.
As you would expect the FBU have immediately initiated an investigation into the cause of this incident and local officials have started an investigation supported by regional and national officials. The union has made all resources available.
Initially the service did not cooperate but this situation has improved slightly and we have suggested a joint approach is the best way forward.
While we have some very serious concerns around the circumstances that led to this incident it is too early to make any assumptions. We are obviously looking at what caused the incident and have already made approaches to senior management to ensure that it is not repeated.
Our initial thoughts are with the member and his family who is receiving support and any advice from an official who is also a family friend.
It is very important that as an FBU member, if you are asked to make any comment, statement, or give any opinion on this or any related issue, that you have an FBU representative present.
If legal representation is required this will be provided.
