FBU members will be aware that our Conference is recalled in Manchester on Tuesday 10 February. This will be to discuss latest developments on pensions and the next steps for our campaign. Our Conference is key to our democratic decision making and it is essential that all Brigade Committees have considered the most recent developments and are able to bring the views of local members. Reports of the outcome will be issued after the close of Conference.
Pensions Protest: No more lies!
Meanwhile, the Executive Council has agreed to call a protest event on Wednesday 25 February. This is to protest at Westminster at the fact that the claims made in Parliament about a 'guarantee' of an unreduced pension to firefighters who suffer an age-related decline in fitness have been exposed as false. While this is only one aspect of the attack on pensions it has much wider implications. It is now clear to all observers that the attacks on our pension were forced through Parliament on the basis of false claims made to the MPs who voted on the issue. While our Conference will discuss our further next steps, arrangements are being put in place for this protest event.
