We have been informed of a number of initiatives by Fire and Rescue Services, whereby the FRS is seeking information from members regarding their intentions in the event of strike action, following the FBU ballot which ends on 29 August 2013.
The documents vary in format and the specific question being posed. Similarly, the documents vary in tone from cordial to aggressive. However, there is a common intent within the letters, which is to seek information from members as to whether he/she intends to take strike action in the event of such action being called.
There is nothing unlawful in an employer asking this information, however there is no obligation whatsoever on members of a trade union to respond to such requests for information; nor is there a sanction that can be imposed for a refusal to do so.
Members are therefore advised to simply ignore the documents sent to you. Should management persist in their attempt to receive a response from you, again, you are advised to politely refuse to supply the information.
The above advice applies to all members, except those in Region 2, and those who work in an emergency fire control room
