Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, sends the following message to all members:
"2019 has been a challenging year, but the FBU has continued to be a fighting force, protecting firefighters, control staff and the fire service.
"We can be proud that our union took on the government’s attacks on firefighters’ pensions and we beat them on the issue of transitional protection. We will now take up other aspects of the attack on our pensions. And it’s thanks to our members campaigning that we’ve fought off cuts to fire services across the country. But let’s be honest, we’re in for a rough year - a majority Tory government has the potential to inflict devastating damage to our fire and rescue service. As we look to next year, and to taking on these battles, we must find strength in unity together.
In 2020, we will continue to stand up and speak out for our fire and rescue service. We will continue fighting for hope, fighting for investment, and fighting for real change in fire and building safety.”
