Young members inclusion framework

This Conference recognises the importance of a vibrant, inclusive and fully involved membership.

This Conference also recognises that younger Members of the Fire and Rescue Service may have little experience of a heavily unionised industry such as the Fire and Rescue Service.

This inexperience creates barriers to involvement by these younger Members who, in order for this Union to survive and thrive must be as widely involved in Union matters as possible.

The FBU has a proud history of setting up sections for under-represented groups within our membership.

Young FBU Members are undoubtedly under represented, not only by the fact that they have less experience of Trade Union membership but by the fact that there are considerably less young Members presently due to Government budget cuts and the subsequent drop off in recruitment by many Fire and Rescue Services across the UK.

This Conference instructs the Executive Council to set up a robust and clear young Members inclusion framework for representatives to use in order to inform, recruit into and involve young Members in our Union.
