Post-Brexit rise in hate crime

It is with great concern that Conference notes the rise in hate crime post-Brexit. Home Office statistics indicate an alarming trend in reporting of attacks on minorities including an increase of 147% on LGBT people in the first three months post-Brexit.

Conference believe the rhetoric used by political parties has helped legitimise hatred and condemns those who believe that an exit from the European Union negates obligations to treat minorities with dignity and respect.

Conference re-affirms its commitment to all its minority Members that we are a Union of inclusivity and that we shall continue to challenge racism, sexism and homophobia in all its forms.
