New vehicle technology

Conference is concerned at the impact of certain modern vehicle technology being used on
vehicles that are subsequently converted into fi re appliances. A particular issue at this time is
the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) feature, however further vehicle technology advances
could create issues for blue light response drivers in the future.

Conference instructs the Executive Council to develop a workstream to assess the issues that
electronic and technological systems pose, and commence discussions with all relevant parties
to consider their impact on safety, and the responsibilities of our blue light response drivers.
This should then establish a national Union position and a potential agreement with Fire and
Rescue Services on vehicle procurement standards.
