Equal consideration of all members

The ONC recognises that there has been work tackling cancer in the Fire Service undertaken by the FBU and welcomes the guidance regarding contaminants - Protection against Cancer.

The guidance makes several references to the decontamination of firefighters, appliances and fire stations, however there is no specific mention of the impact on Officer Members, any specific guidance for them and the impact contaminated fire gear carried in their cars can have on not just those officers but their families who use these vehicles.

The ONC represents the roles of Watch Managers and above; many of these roles are not based at fire stations but they still attend fires in charge, as fire investigation, fire safety officers, and other specialist roles.

The immediate aims of the FBU are to serve its Members and to secure the highest standards of health, safety and welfare at work consistent with the provision of a frontline emergency service.

Conference requests that moving forward the FBU consults with and works with the ONC (and other sections as required) so that all of our membership are represented equally.
