Compensatory rest

Conference is greatly concerned with the continued cuts to the UK Fire and Rescue Service.
The consequence of the reduction of over 10,000 fi refi ghters results in fi refi ghters having
to regularly remain at incidents several hours past the end of their shift. This may result in
a breach of the working time regulations, specifi cally the provision for compensatory rest if
that compensatory rest is not provided prior to returning to duty for the next shift. Conference
instructs the Executive Council to ascertain the extent of this problem and if deemed necessary,
issue guidance to all offi cials.
