Challenging marginalisation of LGBT equality

Conference notes the Government’s delayed release of the Thomas Review. Whilst the report speaks about culture and equality, again it is a report which focuses on gender and ethnicity. The review makes mention of concerns about sexuality yet makes no recommendations or further reference to it as an issue.

LGBT Members are angry that when this Government commission reports that purport to be about modernisation and making the service inclusive they should marginalise sexuality as an issue. The author of the report makes reference to ‘unconscious bias’, and LGBT Members wish he had asked them what that meant, as he clearly didn’t. 

LGBT Members believe this report is yet another smoke screen to promote a different agenda than true modernisation of the service and call on officials to remind Government that an inclusive service involves including all minorities.
