Unite the resistance affiliation

Conference notes that the Tories continue with their ideological austerity agenda. If the Government is not resisted and beaten we face years of continued attacks on our pay and conditions and a continued assault on our public services. At the forefront of the Tory agenda is the Trade Union Bill, an attempt to further weaken trade unions’ ability to organise and to strike.

The Bill represents the most determined attack on the FBU and other trade unions for a generation, and the trade union movement must be prepared to take on and defy these new laws. The TUC has policy to consider “generalised strikes” against the bill and to defend unions that find themselves “outside the law”. Jeremy Corbyn has argued that a Labour government will repeal the bill and bring in new legislation to defend workers’ rights.

The FBU alongside other unions in the Trade Union Co-ordinating Group, and campaigns such as Unite the Resistance, the National Shop Stewards Network and the People’s Assembly are at the forefront of opposition to the bill, continuing our attempts to defeat anti-trade union legislation. To further assist in our aims to oppose austerity and the anti-trade union legislation, Conference instructs that the FBU affiliates to Unite the Resistance.
