Same sex survivor pensions

Conference notes with disappointment the outcome of the Court of Appeal in its ruling in the appeal of Walker v Innospec. The appeal related to the accrual rights of survivor pension benefits ts prior to 2005. Currently, some pension schemes fail to recognise survivor benefits accrued prior to the introduction of legal recognition of same-sex partnerships in 2005. Conference calls on our Officials responsible for negotiating pensions to continue to raise the issue of inequality in pension provision with government and press for survivor benefits to relate to the length of membership of schemes as opposed to the introduction of legal recognition of a same-sex partnership.
