Firefighter safety - duty systems

Conference is concerned about the growing utilisation of Day Crewing Plus/Close Proximity Crewing or any of its hybrids which results in firefighters working excessive hours. Conference views such shift systems as a risk to firefighter safety, as potentially unlawful and could have a ruinous effect on our pension schemes through the cap and share policy foisted on us by the Tory led coalition. Conference seeks that the Executive Council continues to resist these dangerous duty systems by all means necessary including the production of a guidance document for Brigade Officials having to deal with such proposals.
