Merseyside evictions of love activists

Conference is appalled by the use of selected Fire and Rescue Service personnel on
Tuesday 12 May 2015 to help evict homelessness activists involved in an ongoing
occupation of an empty bank in Merseyside.

Conference applauds the direct action of people to tackle the homeless crisis in
Merseyside.

Conference notes that the FBU Merseyside Brigade Committee had demonstrated
solidarity and visited the occupation.

Conference notes that firefighters had carried out a fire safety inspection of the
occupied premises as part of that solidarity.

Conference notes that no FBU members were involved in the evictions. These were
carried out by non-FBU members in the Search and Rescue Team.

Conference further notes the popularity of firefighters in Spain who refused to evict
people from their homes.

Conference believes that firefighters rescue people, not banks.

Conference believes that it is not the job of firefighters to attack working class people
and other activists who are resisting austerity and defending their living standards.

Conference calls on members to collectively resist by all means any instruction to
participate in similar evictions.
