Compulsory redundancies following the general election

Following the election result of the new Tory government forming a majority, further
cuts and compulsory redundancies is likely.

Leicestershire Combined Fire Authority have already agreed proposals that would see
the reduction of over 120 Wholetime Firefighter posts in the next 5 years, out of a
current establishment of 440, only 40 are due to retire in that time. We are currently
over establishment by 32 Firefighters and our Medium Term Financial plan predicts
that we will have used all reserves and not be able to present a balanced budget by
2017. This means that over 60 Firefighters currently face the very real threat of
compulsory redundancy.

If any Wholetime Firefighter is made compulsory redundant and following that brigade
winning a successful local ballot for industrial action, then this Conference instructs
the Executive Council to Recall Conference. Conference will then debate with a view
to recommend a ballot for national industrial action up to and including strike action.
