Stonewall: supporting the political lobby for LGBT equality

LGBT Members remind Conference of the advances made with the introduction of
legislative change to afford equal protection to people who are LGBT.

Stonewall have been a leading figure in the political lobbying to bring about the
necessary changes. Stonewall are currently engaged in the fight to achieve
recognition of same sex marriage as well as campaigning to combat homophobic
bullying in both sport and schools.

Over the years more and more Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) have joined the
Stonewall Equality Index and membership costs of the scheme have gone towards
the financing of these ongoing campaigns. Currently the FRS is one of the largest
contributors to Stonewall but with financial constraints being applied to our service
many FRS are withdrawing from the scheme.

LGBT Members call on all Officials engaging in Fairness at Work consultation to
encourage Fire and Rescue Services to rejoin or continue to be members of the index
to ensure this important work continues.
