Overtime

Conference is extremely concerned with the increased use of overtime within the Fire & Rescue Service. Recruitment freezes have led to shortfalls in establishments and overtime is being used to cover these deficiencies on a daily basis.

Local Officials are relying on overtime restrictions within the Grey Book and Working Time regulations to
control the hours individuals are being permitted to work.

Fire & Rescue Services are attempting to ignore the Grey Book restrictions on overtime and looking to negotiate
duty systems that are reliant on pre-arranged overtime as part of their cuts agenda.

Therefore Conference demands the FBU stands firm on the matter of overtime and
any attempts by the Employers, either locally or nationally to change or undermine the
Rules, must be resisted.

The FBU must continue to protect the health & safety of
members as well as protecting jobs by ensuring the use of overtime and the hours
worked by firefighters are controlled.
