Increased responsibilities

The Fire Service nationally is under the largest scale attacks in a generation and as a
result the battles faced by FBU Members across the UK are numerous and not
without casualties.

We fully accept that a Public Sector Service should be efficient and meet the needs of
the public and communities it serves. However FBU Members are being asked to take
on more and more responsibilities, quite often for no reward and we are in danger of
allowing non-FBU Stakeholders to take the lead on these matters.

We feel the time is right for national discussions to take place between the employers
and the FBU to find a way forward for areas of activity that currently lie outside of the
role map.

We can no longer resist the changing face of the UKF&RS but that does not mean we
shouldn’t be taking the lead. Failure to be part of the discussion, risks both the future
of the UKF&RS and in turn the FBU.
